Why Posey?
Your loved ones deserve the most compassionate and innovative care you can provide. Since 1937, the Posey Company has been your partner in caring for your loved ones. With over 68 years of experience, we are the leaders in patient protection, fall management and bed safety, and a worldwide manufacturer of high quality products. The Posey Bed Canopy System is a restraint and may be used only by order of a licensed physician. It is not intended
to be a substitute for good nursing care and should only be used after all practical non-restraint options have failed.
When you need a little help
Sometimes, our loved ones need special assistance. Sometimes, as caregivers you need help providing the most compassionate care. In the past, direct physical restraints such as vests or roll belts
were the only devices available to help protect patients at risk of a life-threatening fall from an unassisted bed exit. The root cause of these falls are numerous. They include, but are not limited to, Alzheimers, senile dementia, Huntington’s Disease, sundowners syndrome, restless sleepers, nocturnal wanderers at-risk for a grave injury from a fall, patients for whom chemical restraints are not appropriate and any other medical condition that would cause the patient to be disoriented and/or physically unstable. Now, when you or the caregiver need help caring for your loved one, it is available in our Bed Canopy System – a safe, protective environment.
An excellent solution
The Posey Bed Canopy System provides a high quality solution for at risk patients and may reduce the need for medications that could further disorient the patient. The Posey Bed Canopy is designed for cognitively impaired or agitated patients, patients at risk of a grave injury from falls or unassisted bed exit, or other symptoms identified by a physician. Our system also
helps provide security to those who have sudden changes in medical condition
or mental state, or those who suffer from seizures or spasms. Lastly, the Bed
Canopy can be used on patients of all ages. Note: Pediatric patients should be
old enough for a regular bed.
Our Benefits
Patient has total freedom of movement within the canopy area. The Posey Bed Canopy allows full mobility and range-of-motion within the bed while providing safety, security and patient wellbeing. It can help promote restful sleep, and enhance tissue
integrity and circulation by allowing unrestrained movement within the enclosure.
The caregiver has a full view of the patient while they’re in the Canopy and the patient has a full and unobstructed view of their surroundings. Most importantly, the patient maintains his/ her dignity.
What customers are saying
"We have entrapment issues with other enclosure beds. The fact that you can actually zip up the mattress inside of the Posey Canopy helps to address any entrapment issues.”
Dave Collier, Atlas Mobility, Baton Rouge, LA
We have used the Posey Bed Enclosure as an adjunct to other safety products, when a patient's behavior would have otherwise required either sedation, or added restraint. We have seen significant decreases in our
patients' agitation and/or restlessness once placed in the enclosure, suggesting that they feel more secure. Family members who've been reluctant to go home when their loved one was agitated have also expressed
relief, stating they now feel they could leave knowing that "grandma" was safe.
Sally McKelvy, RN, McCarmel Hospital
"The bed canopy has been very useful in containing confused elderly patients. This restraint is also less restrictive and more comfortable for the patient. Patients are
less confused using the bed canopy than when restraints are applied directly to their body.We had expected more agitation using the bed canopy, but this did not happen.
The patient’s seem to like the bed canopy, (and) we have significantly reduced the use of ‘sitters’ at the bedside, when using it."
Linda Garner, RN, Sunnyside Hospital, Sunnyside, WA

Six month observational study supervised by Cindy Wagner, RN, BC, MS,
CNS and approved by the Institutional Review Board of Doctor’s Hospital,
Columbus, OH.
“Staff concern and attitudes changed during the study (of the Posey Bed) as evidenced by the survey responses. Surveys were completed by nurses and patient care assistants. 91% (21/23) felt the Posey Bed was easy to work with; 84% (16/19) felt that it decreased agitation, and 100% (11/11) felt that patients slept better and they require less sedation (4/4). Staff Comments:
“Patient A was very restless and verbal (calling out) and met criteria for placement in the Posey Bed. This patient’s roommate, Patient B, was confused, but did not meet the criteria for the Posey Bed. After Patient
A was placed in the Posey Bed, he settled down and his roommate complained that it wasn’t fair the “other guy who was yelling so much got a new bed!”
